One BHA Through Vertical, Curve, and Lateral
Pro Directional drilled 13,501 feet in a single run for a major operator in La Salle County, Eagle Ford. One bottomhole assembly (BHA) completed the vertical, curve, and lateral (VCL) section to total depth (TD) without a trip.
The run paired a 7.25-inch 5/6 motor with 9.7 stages with an 8.75-inch hole size, delivering a composite rate of penetration (ROP) of 280 ft/hr.
Run Results
- Total footage: 13,501 feet
- Composite ROP: 280 ft/hr
- Rotary ROP: 329 ft/hr
- Slide percentage: 8.1% across the entire run
- Motor stalls: Zero
- Maximum recorded temperature: 311°F
- Bit condition at TD: Reported with no wear
Complete VCL Section Without a Trip
Completing the vertical, curve, and lateral sections with one BHA meant the assembly stayed in hole through the full run to TD. The motor recorded zero stalls, with sliding accounting for 8.1% of the run.
At TD, the bit was pulled out of hole and reported to have no wear. Together with the footage and ROP figures, that observation adds detail to the run’s performance record.
Performance at 311°F
The maximum recorded temperature reached 311°F during the run. This operating condition provides context for evaluating the motor specification, BHA configuration, and temperature management behind the result.
For this Eagle Ford application, the outcome was clear: 13,501 feet, one BHA, and a complete VCL section drilled to TD without a trip.
